About Dr. Derek Conte
Email: derekc@mariettachiro.com
Dr. Derek Conte graduated Summa Cum Laude from Life University in June of 2000--- sitting literally right along side of Dr.s Jim and Anthony Colina--- and that day received the Class Salutatorian award for finishing 2nd in a starting class of 300 members and was inducted into The International Chiropractic Honor Society.
While at Life, Dr. Conte performed specialized anatomical dissections at with neuroscientist, Dr. Salman Afsharpour, which became the centerpieces for professional seminars such as the National Upper Cervical Conference and the Atlas Orthogonal with Dr. Roy Sweat. Dr. Conte continues to assist in the instruction of anatomy at these seminars.
Upon graduation from Life, Dr. Conte was recruited to teach National Board Review classes for chiropractors in their quest for professional licensure in such subjects as anatomy, physiology, neurology, spinal biomechanics, X-Ray physics, clinical diagnosis and chiropractic technique and philosophy.
Dr. Conte has also been on the faculty of Rising Spirit Institute for Natural Health since 2001, where he instructs students in anatomy and physiology and clinical assessment. In December, 2003, he was presented with the Outstanding Faculty Award. He currently sits on the advisory board for Georgia Medical Institutes new associates degree in Physical Fitness Training and will be an instructor there.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Conte grew up in New Rochelle, where he loved sports, the beach, Frank Sinatra and sang to all his records. His background includes a B.A. in theatre arts from the University of South Florida, Tampa 1981. While there, he participated in the American College Theatre Festival, culminating in an appearance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts where he won 2nd prize in the prestigious Irene Ryan Acting Award competition. Dr. Conte also pitched for the U.S.F. varsity baseball team and was even scouted by a few pro clubs. After graduation he worked in the professional theatre as an actor and director in New York City and on national tours for 13 years in over 100 productions. During this time, he supplemented his income by working as a waiter, cab driver, factory custodian, carpenter and designer. Dr. Contes interest in building and design and his love of music led to experiments in controlling sound vibrations in loudspeaker enclosures and in 1993, these designs appeared in Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Stereo Review and Audio magazine in the U.S. and Teknika Koigile in Tallin, Estonia, Al-Iqstaad in Saudi Arabia and a feature article in the newspaper Trouw of the Netherlands. Thousands of enquiries followed leading to placement in contemporary art galleries in Detroit, and at a private gallery opening in SOHO, New York City. Many of Dr. Contes designs have been sold for their unusual combination of clean sound and futuristic lines.
A strong desire to make better use of his talent was the impetus that led to his return to schooling and the goal of becoming a chiropractor--- a decision he feels fortunate to have made. For in the field of chiropractic, Dr. Conte finds all the beauty, art, challenge and demand for excellence and an even greater reward, than in anything he has up to now undertaken. The reason: giving people hope and making their lives better.
As one of the founding members of Marietta Chiropractic Specialists, Dr. Conte is very proud and excited to be returning to the fold, working along side his gifted colleagues, exchanging ideas and techniques and helping each other grow as the best and most conscientious chiropractors in the business.
